Linwood Lee Hackney was born on July 1, 1948, in Durham County to the late Mr. Carl Vester Hackney Sr. and the late Mrs. Hattie Eades Hackney.
He departed his earthly home to enter eternal peace on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill NC.
Linwood attended Durham Public Schools, where he became a man of many talents. He was a very skilled mechanic and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that he met. Linwood enjoyed cooking and his passion was showing love through food. Whether it was grilling his favorite ribs, making chopped barbeque, or just preparing a simple breakfast meal, he was always very generous with his time and always willing to serve others.
Linwood was a comedian or at least he thought so! He always had a joke or a funny story to tell. He had a way of making you feel better even when you felt bad.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Jettie Mae Howard, his partner of 44 years.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife Pastor Jettie Howard Hackney. He also leaves children not born to him but his nonethess, Latasha M. Denning, Durham, NC, and Simeon Z. Alston of the home.
He also leaves, one daughter, Minister Eva M. Bailey, one son, Jurother Alston
four granddaughters, Latisha China, Princess Henderson (Vincent), Lovely Bailey, Precious Bailey
five grandsons, Ray Blue Jr., Andre Owens, Jurother Alston Jr. Gary Bailey Jr., and Amos Bailey and
twenty-five, great grandchildren. Three sisters, Maxie Belser & Pastor Trudie Watson, both of Durham, NC, and Vertie Ballard of Creedmoor, NC. One brother-in-law, Rev. Willie Howard; seven sisters-in-law, Dorothy Murchison Sanford, NC, Mattie Hackney, Josephine Lassiter, Bonnie Hackney, Linda S. Howard all of Durham, NC, Cynthia Denning, Raleigh NC, and Linda H. Cates (Maurice), Rougemont, NC, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Linwood was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl Jr., Jesse Sr., Lonnie, David, and Troy Hackney, and sisters, Minister Onie Mae Burch and Betty White and son, Robert Alston Jr.
